Has it been five years? A reflection on Team Fortress 2..

This morning I found that I had a memory pop in to my head: it was a few years ago and I was stuck on a rainy day in Italy using a Florentian hotel’s WiFi to try to download Team Fortress 2 to catch even a tiny, first-hand glimpse of the title I’d been anticipating for quite some time. I almost fell out of my chair after a quick Google search which seemed to confirm that it is, in fact, 5 years ago today(-ish?) that TF2 was released! Therefore I believe it’s only appropriate for me to spend a little more time than usual writing about it.. but first, let’s get the Crack Clan’s TF2 news done:

Our premiere team is gearing up for their 4th week challenge, scheduled for tomorrow against what is now a very capable Epsilon lineup. I caught up with @Retsh0ck and @Smzi last last night to talk a little about how they’re gearing up with PCWs and psychology in general to deal with a team that carries a lot of combined experience and skill especially in light of pulling off a tie against TLR in Week 3. The attitudes seem to be perfectly set for a clash of the titans so I’d implore even the casually interested to check out and support our boys as we head in to what should be one of our hardest games and carries the potential of being an epic battle! Coverage should be available from our friends at VanillaTF2 so be sure to check things out!

The boys in Blue with Crack TF2 are also in here setting up to take on a busy schedule and a likely roster change to sort things our with RELAPSE! Gaming on Snakewater and Process. We’re not sure if coverage will be available but stay tuned to see how our guys fare this Sunday!

Now, if you like, come join me after this fold to share some of my memories, reflections and affections on the subject of TF2, me and Crack Clan over the years..

Throwing punches, battling worlds and building the tube

Last night @Retsh0ck, @Admirable, @Tviq and @Smzi, Ipz and @Minimoose went up against Punchline to deliver a really exciting official opener that you need to watch, thanks to the great job those guys at Vanilla TV keep doing you can check out this Twitch TV ‘cast by Pledge to experience this nail-biter! You can also help yourself to downloading the demos or picking up the logs from Gullywash and Badlands which includes the golden cap that took our boys to victory. The new line up seems to be headed for great things, check them out again tonight they’re lined up to play Quarantine at 21:15 CET which might be available on SourceTV

NEXT-DAY-NINJA-UPDATE: The boys took it again, this time with a six-oh; help yourself to another set of Granary and Gullywash logs and some STV Demos too. Or, just check out VanillaTV’s continued coverage this time with a cast from Byte and mfcrocker. Looks like TLR is up next!

We’ve also got some motion on the Guild Wars 2 front with the WvWvW side of things getting moved around a bit, with a punishing few weeks for the Crystal Desert crew and some general community feelings that border on despair (really, it has been punishing.) The Crack Clan crew has instead chosen to stick it out and build, having been busy squeezing those lemons and enjoying the fruit of their labour, you can’t deny that there’s a lot of fun going down, take a look at one of the most recent events from @Pockets perspective on this YouTube recording of a recent WvWvW event. We’re still building up our ranks to give those other servers a run for their money so stop on by to lend a hand.

And while I’m jumping from division to division, for the block-oriented it’s definitely worth mentioning that @EssexBoy has set out on yet another one of his ambitious Minecraft projects, this time it’s nothing less than building the London Underground Network – if you’ve seen his council housing and seven-segment display projects (holler back and give us some screenshots in the comments below if you got ’em Essex!) then you know he can pull this one off too (singlehandedly if need be!) – drop him a line if you want to lend a hand with tunneling/rails/stations!
