Atomic wrote:That's the most annoying part of all this. A while back a report on the bbc said that Libya produces something like 2% of the global supply of oil. Even if it was nuked off the face of the earth there should be spare production capacity in the rest of the world to cover demand in the short-term. The impact the whole Libya crisis is having on the price of petrol in the UK (and presumably elsewhere - I'm not up on global oil prices at the moment) is completely disproportionate (in my view) to the actual impact on global supply.
The Heartless Stone: A Journey Through the World of Diamonds, Deceit, and Desire.

Read this book and watch the how it compares to the oil business, manufactured and deceitful "Shortages" of oil and other raw materials, when really we have a huge national reserve and the oil company raise their prices based upon the fact that the oil market really takes 6 months from when something happens to when it is actually seen at the pumps. Just another excuse to make more money in their 70 year old pockets, why not do it, they own congress.

How much we ought to dread the jaws of hell, if the jaws of so small an animal as a wolf can make a whole city tremble through fear

This isn't a case of imposing democracy on a country like we did with Iraq. The citizens of Libya want a democracy and Gadhafi has responded by slaughtering them. This isn't an occupation, we're keeping an awful dictator from committing genocide.

Iranian top level domain. PressTV is owned by the IRIB, so it belongs to the government.

Do you guys really believe this is just about democracy and saving the rebels? Just trying to defend our oil supplies.
The US gets next to no oil from Libya whatsoever. They basically have no other reason to stretch themselves even thinner militarily outside of protecting civilians (and helping to foster another democracy) If they were acting based on ulterior motives, the US probably wouldn't be doing anything as Gadhafi was kind of our guy for awhile there. The French do get a lot of oil from Libya however, and they were the first to strike.

Oil prices are high because of market speculators' predictions of what's going to happen with Libya and the rest of the middle east, with their rash of democratic revolts. If they thought the US was going to do what you're saying they're going to do, gas prices would actually be lower.
